York Pride 2015 – come join us!

So York Pride 2015 is just around the metaphorical corner! This Saturday (20 June), thousands of people will descend upon Duncombe Place just outside York Minster at 11:30 as the parade sets off and makes its way through town, up Bishopthorpe Road and down to the Knavesmire for an afternoon full of entertainment from 13:00.

The theme of this year’s Pride is #RaiseYourRainbow #YorkCityOfRainbows for which individuals and organisations across York have been challenged to get their rainbow on. The parade through York should be wonderfully colourful thanks to the community’s overwhelming display of support!

We will be at the Knavesmire with a stall, where you can find out more about what we do and how you can get involved. We’ll also have a timeline to which you can contribute your own stories of being LGBT in York or other parts of York’s LGBT history. Oh, and there’ll be medieval gingerbread and star-pooping rainbow unicorn cookies.

Ynda created York LGBTQ+ History Month in 2014 while working at York St John University. They then developed it into an independent organisation, and served as Lead Coordinator from 2014 to 2016, which included overseeing its registration as a charity. They remain loosely involved from a distance, mostly helping with web updates. During their seven years in York, Ynda also studied at both of York’s universities and served periods as secretary of York Pride and York LGBT Forum. They also founded Non-binary London and are the DJ coordinator at the queer cabaret event and community Bar Wotever at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern.
